very unique so I'm like kind of curious about him. Yeah from a gameplay standpoint we really
wanted something that played within like a confined range. We wanted something that was a little bit
like brawly support and some of the you know inspiration there. So his aura was really like
defining his zone about where he's really helpful for the team and everything.
I would say both Jetback Cat and Mizuki are both active, they're very very active supports.
Like we want to make these supports in particular not be people that they like hang out in the back
You know they had to be like doing a lot all the time to actually get full value
So me zuki has to be attacking enemies. Yeah, he's gonna change you know always changing positions, too
Like his shift is on a fairly low cooldown
So he's like, you know good about a moving speed bonus throughout the match and everything so yeah
Yeah, one of my games. I noticed that is like like I was kind of spamming the right click like it's hard to charge back

So as you do damage and as you right-click, so your chain heal also powers up your aura.

We did have a version where you were charging your right-click,
but you were just standing the entire time and it just became a little too chaotic.
Yeah, yeah, he kind of reminded me of like Curie a little bit, like with like the Kunai kind of reminding me of it,
but the fact that it can also bounce off walls I think is really cool and like
throwing his hat like that's all super cool and then you got Jeff back at who
can just like permafly has like I did not expect overwatch to do a permafly
character yeah yeah it's one of the things you know we're definitely gonna be
keeping an eye on okay yeah the balance but you can be pretty vulnerable like
you know I think a lot of times Jeff account might force you to you know
switch to something like a scanner something that could work her a little
bit better but you know once you she can't if he doesn't have fuel she's not
boosting he's actually a little slow yeah yeah really smart about how much
we're using like where you're going etc yeah I was kind of just like pulling
far in the back line I would use all my booze and then just like but it was
yeah really fun the aim is tricky with the projectiles yeah the projectile is
tricky that'll take some time for me to get used to because I'm used to playing
like Juno yeah so a lot of that is like pretty intentional because we don't want
you to like be like skybox job yeah because there's like there's this
travel time on it and everything so if you are trying to do damage and trying to heal
which I bet that you kind of don't want to be too far away yeah and those do
dissipate at like 40 meters so they do have like they won't just disappear as
well so you can't like paint out like the top of lead on tower yeah not being
hit scan makes sense shoot I was gonna say something no guys no weeks for the
next heroes they're very fun we're trying to introduce
here is there's at least some throughout the year that belongs to factions that
people know and love. Okay, okay. I can say that. It's part of our like we want to
make sure, especially you saw it with some of this lineup, there's like a lot more
like giving depth to the world and make it feel more lived in. It's like, oh okay,
Emre comes back, like Emre, we've been talking for a while. You know, Domina is
part of Vishkar, right? I've been back for an Anra and a Voolyan, right? So, and even
Mizuki is, you know, part of like Hanzo Kiriko, right? So there's like, there's more
going into some of those places and factions that we touched and we want to
like go a little bit further into that throughout the years. Yeah, that's cool.
Can you say like is it gonna be like one hero like per season type thing? For
this year, one hero per season. Okay, okay, and then is this BlizzCon line up with that?
Well, it's a little far away. But I imagine by then we'll have some other stuff to show.

One of the things coming into season one that we wanted to hit on was like, hey, some heroes
are being put into sub roles.

And there are sub roles in like conflict with some of the little perks they have.
Like if you're in the recon sub role, you probably don't need a perk that gives you recon. Like, you know, Freya used to have some recon among the perks back in the day, right?
Stuff like that. We want to make sure that people are just looking value of the sub role they're placing.
And if they had a perk that was like kind of belonging to their sub role, we kind of washed that one out, right?
Because we don't want like, hey, you're in specialist and then you have vision. It just didn't like really like line up.
Windows still has role and everything. That's fine.
So there's like, you know, Hansa still has, you know, his arrow and everything.
So yeah, no those are cool. So yeah, there's a number of things we want to like you know
Just continue to make sure the systems like really kind of like meet up in a line together

A lot of us came together, you know, rather recently.

So how did you guys manage, like,
coming out with heroes every other month
and making like five or ten more.
Yeah, a lot of it is like, over time,
we're building up some cushion on our team,
in terms of like, there's a little bit of timeline cushion
because heroes are taking this long to make
and we had a little bit longer time.
So we ate through a lot of that, right?
Well, we also shrunk down our hero schedule.
So we optimized a few things,
let it be like on the modeling front,
let it be on some of the things we're doing
in pre-production of animation, stuff like that,
to make it a little bit easier down the line
to make heroes faster.
So we went from about, I'd say, eight to nine months to five months.
For like, to fully make a hero.

Yeah, so we really sped it up.
And you know, the team did a really, really great job.

I thought it would take like over a year.
I mean, there used to be heroes that took us pretty long.

So I mean, I think there's some heroes that
weren't developed for quite a while
because they weren't working out or something like that.
And a lot of it's like making decisions faster,
being really committed to what the hero is, the vision of it, and then just getting everyone
to lie down on board and saying go.
That's crazy because I remember hearing that like mythics took a really long time to make,
like skins, I'm like a hero, yeah a hero being developed in five months is crazy.
Do you kind of like plan to keep that schedule like for like 2027 or is it just like this
year?
I think one of the things like we're going to plan to you know have a faster hero cadence
You know, hopefully, I hear a season or something close to that, right?

I don't think it's something we're going to be doing like a drop of five every year, right?
One thing that's quite important to us is to be surprised players about what we introduce every year.

Yeah, the games have been chaotic and then for for like maps, is there a new map coming out next season or?

But Gibraltar has been changed. Yeah. We are looking at, you know, Antarctica is coming soon with the rework there.

right now we're sticking with what's working currently. We're actually
removing Clash from Quick Play, so we're gonna be doing that. So that's
something that's gonna be happening in Season 1 as well. It was something in the game if you want to play
Cussing Games, but we're looking at Matt Voting and some changes there we're
gonna make in the future as well. When it comes to new modes, I think it's like
really about like refining what we have and also if we introduce something new, we
want to feel like rather different than an overwhelming experience rather than a core mode.

That is sweet, okay, so I'm big into ranked,
primarily it's been 66 lately,
And I know we're all kind of wondering about long queues.
And mainly the fact that I'll be in queue for 30 minutes,
and I get put in a game with people that are sometimes
masters and above.
And I was just kind of curious, why are the queues?
Not like, why are the queues so long,
but in lower ranks, they're faster for masters.
So I'm just wondering, why doesn't it leave you,
if I'm gonna get a master game regardless,
why doesn't it just like put me in that sooner?
So there's a few different things
that we're doing there, right?
What we're trying to do is we're trying to find
something that's fairer than even,
so it does feel like it's a 50-50 match.
So sometimes that ends up taking longer
because we're trying to find someone
that's within that same spread that you're currently in.
That unfortunately does take some time.
A lot of the questions that we ask internally is like,
how do we find that nice balance of quality
few times which is like you're playing with people at your skill range so you
can have a great match and then how do we also get you in much faster yeah
right so we're actively still discussing and trying to figure out different
ways for us to do this but it takes time and we're honestly trying to create the
fairest match that we can yeah sometimes it doesn't feel that way but we really
really are and a lot of it kind of comes into psychology too where it's like hey I
I want to be like getting doves back to back, you know
There's people who are on the lost streak at that point while you're on the win streak
So it's trying to find that balance, but we're actively discussing we're actively trying to tune the system to find
The best way forward for players for sure. Yeah, are you looking into?
Like you restrictions at all because I know recently it was changed to be a little bit more strict
And then there was a hot fix that kind of like relieved that that like stretch a little bit
So is that something that's still being looked into yeah, we're still looking into stuff depending on how
So I guess let me let me frame it a little different sometimes we think
We've made the right choice as we're actively trying to make you times better for players
Yeah, sometimes that doesn't end the working out or we notice that things are kind of like going not the best

but this is kind of like a learning experience for us as well as we're trying to
take that swing of like trying to get y'all into games as much as they can. Other times
were not as successful so then that's when we do like they we change up the grouping
restrictions or anything like that. Yeah, I know mine is probably like a special case
because 66 obviously has like less of a player base than 55 so like Q's are longer
and you know when I would queue with Fawr like sometimes you get like two
hour long queue. Yeah. Which was a little frustrating but I understand that 66
isn't like as popular as a mode. Is that, do you like work on like is the the
MMR system is that kind of like the same in 5.5 and like 66 like how you find
games? Okay, okay. Yeah, I was curious because like 66 was what I was wondering if there would be more of like a
like a game. The restrictions are slightly different right if you actually look at
the two but yeah it's still something that we're actively looking at. We're
trying to figure out again it's just like you said it's there's not enough
players right now playing 66 but as it gets more popular few times they're
gonna draw so we're just again I feel like I'm like reiterating an apology
they're probably like oh yeah you already said it like a million times but it's
like we're actively trying to still improve the experience I know sometimes
it doesn't feel that way but we are yeah and then you worked on the new like the
ranked change right with the challenger yes that I worked on the system with
Yeah, so can you like talk about at all like how much that's changing next season?
Like how much can you say about how that's because I did the math and like if I wanted to you know get to rank one from where I was I'd have to win like 200 games so like
there's just like like it's a bit tough sometimes when people like play a lot versus you know.

So, to answer your question directly, there are things that we're actively doing. One of the things that we hope to do is one of the biggest pieces of feedback is that players want to see things filtered out by rank.
Now we will be adding a filter for that, but it doesn't necessarily mean that that's how it's going to work off the box
So we had goals in mind like leaderboard camping. Sometimes as you know, people multiple accounts
They end up playing just a couple games. They camp it. Yeah, we're good
So we're still trying to find the balance of how do we improve the experience for good players like yourself?
Yeah, with other people who just have more time
So there are things that we plan to take a look at and try to fix because one of my concerns is I
Definitely want to make sure that players have something to stress for
Yeah, I don't want them to feel like just because they don't have the time to play the game that they won't be able to get as far

we felt like that's a really good place for that to be. And obviously, if your chat or anybody
else feels different, then we can definitely take a look at it and try to see what makes sense. But
we also, we don't want to take the prestige out of it, right? Like the whole point is,
and it's not meant to be FOMO. It's more of like, hey, like this is an achievement. I strongly
believe that when we weren't overwatched one we were giving rewards that people
would want to strive for right like that you spent your time honing your scales
and getting back okay so we have the Doomfist game now in top 500 we're
bringing the new icons back you know that the OG icons are coming back well
okay not the OG icons yeah so we're doing the top 500 icons and it's gonna be
stadium and core so we did announce that that's part of it yeah and in the
near future we're going to be doing the dynamic titles so one of the things that
I get and I were really passionate about is how do people get to show like and
peacock that skill yeah so we we did we talked about it the groom that ended up
aligning and we landed on these dynamic titles and people are like what does that
mean what's going to now show your position on the leaderboard it's going
to say your role and then it'll say your contenders for you know so that's
like the number yeah so that the big thing about that is I would love to be
in a situation where players are hitting the versus screen they see the
titles as like top one you know I hear from a lot of content creators are like
hey I want to see ranks on portraits or I want to see this hey guess what we
brought that back right so we want to see lobbies where it's like top one top
two top three drop four so you feel like that hype again right your chat feels
that hype again of like holy smokes I'm seeing what's the top 10 lobby right now.
We'll be able to see that with them. Cool yeah because I know you can only see
like your your team like when you press tab and like the hero you can like see
people's individual ranks but on the enemy team that you can't so yeah and you
know those are areas that were open to discuss and try to figure out if that's
something that we want but at least for now we wanted to start off with you as
an individual get to see your length you get to still show that off and people
