to feedback over the years, actual extraction players that have played over multiple play

There's some small tweaks and stuff you know some people brought up like UI upgrades and

We play a lot of different things.
But what I can say,
We are ending this server slam and I have seen emotions go all over the place this past weekend.
I don't know if y'all have been paying attention like whether it's been Twitter, Reddit, other
YouTube videos.
The wave of videos that hit probably Friday of Marathon is shit, dead on arrival, Concord
two or three or whichever number so many. But strangely enough, about Saturday, going into Sunday,
it was like something got flipped. I don't know if those players learned how to play the game,
maybe they got a good couple runs. Maybe they adhered to what the game is trying to offer,
which is a more brutal extraction shooter than maybe what they were originally anticipating.
But I felt like people's thoughts just kind of flipped over the weekend.
And it's not saying that people are jumping up saying, my God, it's game of the year or
anything.
But I just noticed there were a lot of people actually saying they were enjoying Marathon.
My experience this weekend, guys, I've really enjoyed myself, like I've had a very good
time playing marathon, enough to the point where I'm very much looking forward to the
launch coming this Thursday.
And I actually am happy that originally I was worried that the server sounds too close
to launch.
I'm happy that I don't have to wait them any days.
So we just have a few days here before we get into the Thursday launch out of
good time.
And that doesn't mean it's perfect, right?
like I completely understand some of y'all's thoughts on like UI stuff, you know, recently
when I was looking at my weapons, I was like, I hate having to go through my vault and find
mods that work on my weapons.
It turns out there's an ability here that you can just select all of the mods that are
applicable to your weapons.
So little things like that that I feel like, you know, will pick up the experience for
people.
And then playing, you know, if you're playing solos, yeah, the game kind of does turn into
a bit of a horror game.
We played solos and I'm gonna be honest, pure solos to me is scarier than rook runs.
Rook runs are definitely, you know, the odds are stacked against you in your rook runs
if you were looking to engage with other people.
But pure solo runs are just scary because everybody is ratting.
Because Rook Runs, you actually at least know where other teams are because there's just
so many people and their presence is just easier to detect and you can make adjustments.
Crouch also regenerates heat faster.
Is the stat list everywhere on solos?
Right.
Right.
But I do believe that the best experience is Trio's playing with the squad.
I have, I have a lot of fun just jumping in and, you know, and the fights get pretty intense.
Um, some of them are, you know, pretty rage inducing cause you get third party, it sucks.
But at the same time, those moments where you clutch it up and you come out on top,
damn, it's a good feeling.
Even more so than that, when you go in with a, you know, potentially even a mediocre
loadouts and you, you know, somehow sneak a purple shield team or higher or
something like that, and you get their loot, dude,
you're back on top again.
Now, I've heard some things, some suggestions,
and some things I've seen are, could they add duos?
And I think Bungie is looking to add in duos.
You know, I guess my question to you guys,
would you be okay with, would you want duos?
Would you prefer duos?
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I would say finding one other friend is easier to find two other friends.
You know what I mean? So it were in a strange way. We're kind of like in a trials of a
sour situation where, you know, bungee is going to have to balance solos, duos and
trios, right? So I think throwing that option in there is still a good option, nonetheless.
One thing that I would ask Bungie to add, and I don't know if they're going to add this
or not, or if even at this point, if it's even possible to add for launch, a shooting
range would be nice. And I know my Destiny players are like cross, we waited a decade
to get a shooting range, right?
But as you know, Marathon gets all the new stuff
and they get it fast.
A shooting range would be amazing.
As we acquire more and more loot,
I've lost all my gold stuff by this point
over the past weekend,
but it would be nice when I acquire gold mods
to just go into a shooting range and test it out.
You know what I mean?
Get a feel of it before going and risking it.
And essentially, you can just give us what operators ask, you know what I mean?
An ability to load in an ammo, you could try it all your stuff, and then just to test them.
And that's also as Destiny players, everybody in Destiny Community loves that.
will sit here and shoot a shotgun, literally a thousand times to see what the exact kill
range for that shotgun is.
And then the crazy thing is, is that's the players who are playing marathon, will also
tune in to know what those kill ranges are.
And the same with like recoil, pellet spread, bullet spread, everything so like having
a testing range would be great for the number crunchers to really narrow in on what is the
most optimal builds and mod combinations. Fall out the shotgun guy. Rook, you can't bring
out your shield or pack and no contract progress. Yeah, so this past weekend, I would say
out of everything. Trios, I had the most fun with. So, those was okay, especially for the
experience. But even beyond trios, the Rook experience has been my favorite, guys. I,
something about going in with the Rook and blending in with UESC bots, and then having
the potential to 1v3 a team is so much fun, dude. I felt like the Rook experience, it's crazy that
Rook was almost not going to be a thing in this game, you know?
So those are good for doing contracts. Yeah. And I think once we get into the
main game, I've noticed there's a lot of people using proxy.
But when we get in the main game when items are on the line and people really don't want to die

But back to Rook Rook is by far my favorites so much so that we're actually gonna be talking about Rook here in the next few days
I like Rook is the most fun. I have inside a marathon now a question that was brought up
We'll Rook be able to drop into ranked. I
Would love it. I think that would spice things up a lot dude because a Rook can take out a team
Um, the thing is, is like, how do you drop a Rook into rank because they're not supposed
to be able to get quest progress, faction progress, or even, I guess, rank progress.
So you would be there just to scavage, just to take loot, but do Rook runs inside of ranked
where there's gear ante?
I know Rook doesn't meet the gear ante, but if Rooks could still be allowed to drop into
rank runs, imagine going in as a Rook and looting gold stuff from dead bodies or maybe
even taking out a team.
What is gear ante?
So when this game launches, guys, you're going to have two of the maps, Meridah map is
supposed to roll out, I think a week after launch.
I don't know for certain.
But then you have, you have gear, or you have rank.
And in order to jump into rank, you must meet a certain gear threshold.
So right there, you see my loadout value is 7.2k.
It may, it may be, you know, 5,000, maybe even 10,000, but you have to have a certain
amount of gear or wealth of gear in order to even jump into certain aspects of rank.
Now why is this good?
It separates the super sweaty players from the people that just want to jump in and get
some shit.
You see what I mean?
All the sweaty people are going to be jumping into rank.
They want the flags, they want the cosmetics that go along with it and the potential for
huge upside, right?
So I'm not going to say that there's not going to be pub stomping still, but a lot
of your really good players are going to prefer to jump into rank more.
And so that will allow your more casual players to have hopefully a better experience
on the other maps. And I also think that once outpost and marathon ship drops too, I think
most people, you know, as soon as they hit purple gear, dude, they're going to be going
to those maps. I mean, if it was available this past weekend in the surface, we would
have as well.
Is rank going to be solo and duo also? I have no idea. No idea. Being solo and rank
won't work as well. I have no idea how the team split is going to be. If they're going
to do solos and do those, and you can still gain rank progress. I'll do ranked if it's
solo. What is Silk used for? I think Silk guys is like, if you played, guess, you know
Bright does use that to make purchases and never restore. It's just an earnable currency
I think that's what silk is.
Season pass currency.

How's this game still running I have no idea actually
Let me let me pull this up. We were planning on making a video about this. So overall, I've
had a great experience playing marathon this week. Of course we had some terrible runs there,
some awful, uh, lost streaks, but overall it was great runs. Now I want to show y'all
some things that I saw and I've just been kind of collecting a few things. This was actually one of
them and tell me your thoughts on this. So on the topic of suggestions, again, at the top of the list,
I would love a shooting range. Second thing, Rylo actually brought this up. I hate this
mechanic. We should be allowed to keep money valuables and sell them when we want.
Having a case full of bare buddies or figurines and Tarkov is one of the most
fun ways to create attachment to the game world out of the rates. So when you extract with
a high value item, it auto sells. It's not like at the top of the to-do list probably,
but I guess for some of you that wants to keep an entire vault of an emotional support plushing,
right? You know what I mean? Would you prefer to have the option to manually sell that?
Making an optional setting? Yeah.
It's extremely annoying that it auto-sales basic meds, yeah, just having it as an option.
It's a little cute thing, right?
If you want to, you know, keep all these little high-value items, maybe you just
want to just, I personally don't have enough all space to do it, but if that's you, great.
A second thing that I saw brought up, this was a really cool little look here of a potential
UI change.
So this was shared by Marathon Media.
It said, ready user shared a new UI suggestion for Marathon focused on improving Weaponship
Readability.
So, if you look at it now, this is the system now, and this is the system that
this guy propose. Notice the icons. See the icons here? That change also representing what
each icon does. I think that's a, and I'm not saying that this is perfect, guys, but look
at this and notice that like there's hardly any variability here, right? It's not in
the world, but it gives you a little bit of, you know, visual representation of what the
mods are.
Granted, anytime you ever want to look up how to, you know, change weapon mods, you should
go into the weapon itself, right?
Slightly better in my opinion.
They're different shapes, though.
Yeah, guys, I mean, look, I'm not saying that this system is a game-breaking system, you
know, I mean, but I think suggestions like this or little refinements, right, that can
make marathon better.
So I like it.
Who's going to spend that much time looking at mods when they're getting shot at?
Yeah, I mean, this right here could allow you to recognize immediately if you're trying
to specifically go for a mop.
Obviously inside of Marathon, it really is just a bigger color, better.
I mean, I see a purple, I'm gonna grab it just about every single time.
This is purely because people don't want to read.
Oh my God, are we really debating about this guys?
It's not the end of the world.

Obviously people are not reading, but it's still a good change in my opinion.
I think this right here would give further clarity that when people could just grab
what they need.
I think the last suggestion that I could think of off the top of my head, let me actually
pull this up cuz I had just been jotting some of these things down.
The last suggestion that I've seen and I have not played on controller, but I've been told
that swapping items back and forth on controller, specifically when you're out in the field
and you've killed someone and you're looting, I've been told that it takes a long time.
I don't know, I haven't played with controller, but if there's a way to, I wouldn't even say
auto-loot, but just bun presses there, boom, boom, boom, get the items in, you know what
I mean?
Just use left trigger.
It's not bad, a controller.
It feels disgusting on controller.
You see what I'm coming from, I mean, I get a lot of different dots in here on the
controller experience.
the cursor speed on the controller is slow. Yeah, I mean, maybe they can just speed that
up, but simplifying that, making it better for controller players, I think would be nice.
Outside of that, man, the last thing I would say is, Bungie, just cook. You obviously
have a vision. At first, I'm gonna be clear that the vision really wasn't resonating,
But it almost reminds me of Destiny's launch where people went through the campaign.
We sat around kind of like, what the hell is that?
Is that it?
In this case, it's more of a skill curve thing.
Once people understood what they were playing, I think they started to enjoy more, at least
from what I've observed online.
And I hope to see, you know,
that enjoyment carry over into the main launch.
But what I would say is,
but you got a vision on rank,
you got a vision on outposts and the marathon ship
and this cryo lab and raid mechanics and whatever else.
Full send it, man.
You know, and hopefully it hits, hopefully it hits.
I would say that I enjoyed playing this past weekend on just perimeter and dire marsh definitely
couldn't play that all the time.
But I think whatever those other two maps that's going to be that's going to be pivotal
especially the marriage lunch at map.
And then we're also supposed to be getting some other enemy type.
And then even beyond that the seasonal narrative progression roadmap like what's the play
on that.
I think this game is going to change so much just as the weeks go on, because eventually
you're going to pull up streams like you saw, you know, maybe even this past weekend of people,
you know, using normal weapons, right?
And then you're going to pull up someone else's stream who's loaded out with gold
shit, who's going to be doing crazy stuff.
And that right there, man, that's the most exciting aspect of marathon to me is getting
fully kitted in gold gear and then what's the crazy shit can that you could possibly pull off with those setups
The selling for the game is so high

That's also what makes it appealing
What I will say I feel like there's
And a lot of destiny players playing this past weekend, especially PVP players.
And I think the destiny PVP players are going to be eating pretty well in this game.
You know, you've seen like Frost is doing very, very well, ZK, Benny, uh, the fizzles
been popping off and grinding, you know what I mean?
Uh, there's a lot of just destiny PVP players that I feel like have transitioned so, so
well into, into marathon.
I think they're going to do really well here.

And then other people do we play with crafty this past weekend?
And, um, and, you know, to see him back back over here is awesome as well.

Because Marathon's server slam, a success or a failure by Paul Tassie here, this was published
just yesterday.
We are headed into Sunday nights.
The last evening that players can drop into Towson City for Marathon runs after its server
slam launch, the numbers are in, impressions have forms, and I wanted to take a step
back and analyze everything we've seen from data to vibes and what that may mean heading
into next week's actual launch, or this week's actual launch.
Revenue.
From what I could tell, Marathon seems like it may be a game that skews more toward a
PC player population than console, though that remains to be officially the same.
Marathon managed to crawl up to number three in pre-sales on Steam in the US before the
server stand even started.
It did drop a decent way for a time after the event launch, but looking now Sunday
at the tail end of this, it's back to being number four behind only the smash
shit, Resident Evil, Requiem, Counter Strike 2, and it's rival Orc Raiders.
That's a solid result.
I actually think it just creeped back up.
Did it get back into number three, guys?
It is number three now.
Yeah.
Look, we'll see how this goes.
If it's anything like destiny
The numbers swell
Because I remember like leading into like finer shape remember we saw the articles come out about the concerns of pre-sales and all that stuff, right?
And what happened the day like literally the day off if not a little bit of the day before and the day off
You saw the numbers just everybody bought it then you know
Let's see number two on Wednesday potentially. We'll see we'll see now player counts it top down at a hundred and forty three thousand
Concurrence a lower than arcs a hundred and ninety thousand open alpha numbers
Which is not a great shock it did shed players rapidly
However losing 40% by day two and going down each day since the end of that a bit lower than half its peak near the end here
I think this is due to two main reasons one being bounce as players tried it didn't like it and moved on
The other thing to consider is that we are less than a week from launch and even those who are liking it don't want to
Think a bunch of more time into the game
That's about to erase all of its faction progress and looks but I think the former reason is more prevalent than the latter

Can't remember. I know arcs was around 190,000 in their in their server slam
But man like even then dude
There were people because we were making our greater videos in and there were people like on
Man, is this it's is this what this is all this game has to offer is like no, dude
It's it's just a server slam, you know that the main game though the whole game will be out soon
So a lot of people are just making that call even just based on that
Folks wait for impressions before they buy why gamble on a pre-order of the games bad. Yeah
Streamers. I'd argued this is split between two groups. One being the big shooter streamers
and those close to the bungee circle. A huge number of big streamers did play marathon
and arragged hundreds of thousands of concurrent to its views that first day or so. But by
the end, few decided to stick with it for the weekend. And some vocally stated they're
disdain for it even after getting it a pretty lengthy go. The bumping up the biggest
shooter streamer at the moment, did chassis people for immediately jumping on the hate
bandwagon.
But he too went back to our creators after not that long.
I think it's going to be a very tough sell to convert these heavy hitters and their
audiences to marathon for the long term, which yes, like it or not, can influence sales
and interests.
I, I think what's, what's going on with someone, especially at the ArcGrader
streamers. Um, I think they're just really embedded in their communities, which has really
grown for them. And kind of like whenever we leave destiny, man, you know what I mean?
Oh, y'all give us help. I think the same situation was happening to some of these
operator guys is that they were probably getting a lot of hell to go back to our
At the same time though, just to be quite frank with you, Arc Raiders is a more casual experience.
A marathon, especially like if you're like getting geared and leveling up. This sweaty man,
and it's sweaty as fuck.
It ain't even a little sweaty.
It is sweaty as fuck.
And, you know, you're gonna see people
that are going to really blossom, I think, in Marathon.
And I think, you know, it's gonna really come down
to their ability to handle the skill gap.

However, the other group of streamers that I'm more familiar with, the death scene guys
have almost all really embraced marathon.
Loads have stuck with the game all weekend and it very much seems like it's going to be
their next main title after launch.
It's hard to understand just how fully dead Destiny 2 is at the moment with zero new
content so this is not a huge surprise.
But this does track with what I predicted.
That Bungie fans would embrace this and I'm seeing the PV Vokes long-storved of
Destiny content go the hardest out of anyone here.
Yes.
I mean, honestly, if you don't, you don't have to be clairvoyant to see that destiny PVP players
who have no PVP content in their game are going to be the ones that play marathon,
which plays a lot like destiny PVP.
At this, but here's the thing, here's the thing.
You know, it reminds me of like even the alpha last year,
even the alpha last year, who were the people that were still playing
in the last few days?
It was your destined players.
I mean, though those were the guys that were still going.
Rean Good with Marathon as PV mains, yeah, all of the trial players, trials with Cyrus
players you've seen over the years, they're gonna be probably playing Marathon nonstop.
Now the bot should be working.

Now players, it's a range.
And things have shifted over the course of the weekend.
The service them launch did not spawn a big wave of,
actually, I love this.
Among most players posing about it,
clear that many hit the bounce face quickly, finding the game on fun or
exhausted by its UI or their eyes hurting from its bright colors.
I mean, dude, I saw, I saw all types of things, man.
I saw things like people posting up clips saying, you know, and, and
I'm not saying that these were wrong things, right?
But people were saying, I don't have enough money to buy meds or shields.
Um, one of the complaints I saw very quickly was that there was not
end up PVP engagements. And then Bungee came out and said it's because everyone was dying
to the PV enemies. There have been people that have come out and asked for, you know,
PV enemies to be dialed back and nerfed. But I think that kind of pulls away from what Bungee's
trying to do here with marathon. I mean, it's supposed to be a dangerous role, you know.
And so yeah, I saw the initial feedback. It's pretty gaming. And then I would say probably
in this, you know, Saturday, going into Sunday, I saw a few people kind of circle back was
like, you know, I, I learned what I'm supposed to how to use my class, how to maneuver around
maps, not to walk into spores over and over again to check to check doors. Let me actually

Yet, there are just some things in marathon that,
unfortunately, you end up having to learn the hard way,

Like hardly anything here that can help get me back to full health.
I got these shitty damn, these shitty packages.
And then, this is the crazy thing, I'm locked into this building.
I'm like, all right, how the fuck am I supposed to get out of here?
I guess there's no way, I mean, maybe there's a way to turn off this alarm system.
I'm telling you, Bungie didn't shit like this purposely.
I was like, all right, I guess I'm going to go through this vent.
It's like, there's a vent right here.
I'm just going to go through this vent.
And maybe this will get me out of this place.
This place that I went into that had no looks.
event I drop down fucking dead you see what I'm coming from so if you're like
someone that's like I've never played an extraction shooter I think I'm gonna try
this marathon game you see what I'm coming from that's you're probably one of
your very first experiences you probably saw it you probably had that
experience with like fuck this game I ain't ever played this shit again
house is fun. But what happens is, you learn, you now know when you check that building,
you know, you better shoot for Claymore's first, you know what I mean? Better get that
angle before you, before you hop down. And again, the idea of being a shell is you're
meant to die. And you're like, you're meant to die over and over again. That's even
from like the cinematic trailers, bungee show, you know, the show, the destroyer
facing the other destroyer like it's supposed to be these moments where you know you're
you're dying but the you're able to carry over those those those debts and learn something
from it into the next one.
By the end of the weekend most of the complainers just aren't playing anymore. And it's those
that have stuck around who are largely positive about it. I'm seeing more and more fun
clips of wacky PvE or intense PvE encounters. And a general sentiment of the more I stuck
with it, the more I liked it. As it starts to click with many people, I saw that so much.
Yeah. The more I stuck with it, the more I liked it.
Look, I won't deny the fact that Bungie does not do a very good job hooks with hooks
here. You know, I mean, we talk about destiny. Destiny didn't hook. Not initially. Yeah,
Especially Destiny 1, many of us were perplexed.
We were like, what are we even playing?
Like what even is this game?
It took Vault of Glass coming out
for that hook to really embed itself.
And I'm not saying there weren't smaller things,
like getting an exotic or trying out different weapons
in PVP for the first time,
but it was really Vault of Glass
that was that defining moment.
This is the true hook that hooked Destiny players.
Look, I talk about RuneScape all the time.
I love RuneScape growing up, my favorite game.
But the first time I played RuneScape, I remember I played, I saw an ad for RuneScape at addictinggames.com.
All right, I clicked it, I made an account, I did the tutorial, and I remember I did
the tutorial and I thought to myself, what a shitty game.
I was like, I'm taking a tinderbox and setting logs on fire.
And then I walked around numbers.
I was like, what am I supposed to even be doing right now?
Like, where am I supposed to go?
And I actually stopped playing RuneScape.
And about 30 days later, like a whole month,
I felt a little tingle, a little something, something
said, Hey, why don't you just get on?
Let's just go check.
Let's just go check around real quick.
You know, let's go see what that RuneScape game might possibly be.
And that was it, boys.
I jumped back in and for whatever reason, things just clicked.
It suddenly made me realize in this game, you can be whatever
the fuck you want to be.
You can go wherever, wherever the hell you want to go and you

I had the time of my life when I first started playing RuneScape.
I ran around, I called everybody a bitch, and look, that was my moment, all right?
Now I don't know what your moments are in gaming, but that was my moment where I was
like, this is my game, dude.

And then I started killing goblins, and then I did a quest.
And then so the point is, it's like sometimes those slow burners, those long quotes, man,
sometimes those are the ones that pull you in so damn hard.
And I didn't stop.
I played RuneScape every day for damn near a decade from that point on.
But Rune gave us free the 40 bucks are going to keep people away from it

This does not strike me as a game that's about to have an arc raiders moment where it's launch
player account surges way beyond what its free test show.
Losing half its players in a day does not tell me that it's going to stay at that original
peak for paid conversion.
And asking $40 up from free is a tough sell.
said it has remained a top seller on at least one platform. So that's an indicator that it could
work out better than it might otherwise. The mystery here is what Sony and Budgie are trying to hit.
Say two birds with a seven people show up and pay. Is that good? Will the game add or drop players
a week or a month from now? What will word of mouth be? Can marathon be a hit? If it
condenses down to something like a consistent $20,000 concurrent player count, I doubt that's

lightfall going into final shape, you know, the saga that that the online
witch queen brought like, we've had some fantastic moments inside of destiny.

up on marathon, even if if marathon doesn't hit its numbers. I don't see a capitulate

all down. I just don't see. I think they got a probably going to have a ton of content
ready to roll out over the next year. And, and hopefully they'll be flexible enough
if they need to be.

I think weapons in the game are very strong.

body sniper, Seth, or one shot body that you can, you can do with a sniper rifle.

You put a thermal on that thing.
You got shotguns.
I had a white shotgun and I melted a guy in two shots and he had a gold shield.
It just tells you how strong the shotguns are.

One is definitely made everything very, very powerful.
I would say the only thing that I felt like was a bit too OP was thermal scopes on snipers

That may be the only thing that I think is overturned.
Everything else, though, I think you can let it right.

After Marathon's been down for the past hour, I've been watching Arc Raiders and the PVP
in Arc is non-existent compared to Marathon.
I mean, Arc Raiders is more, I think Arc Raiders leans, you have PVP engagements for sure.
But the way they're, they're matchmaking is it's like, this is my understanding, you can
almost avoid PVP entirely.
It's also third person to man, you know, I look, I had a good time playing Arc.
We made videos, we had a great time playing Arc.
And I know like we've been we've been fucking with you are greater guys all week.
Third person for me kind of pulls me out of it because one, how many times have you been
in an account or an or graders where someone's just sitting by the wall waiting for you to

Marathon has nailed their own vibe, but it's a spookier vibe, man.

you're probably a little anxious, even from the music,
even from just like the pictures and shit.
You're like a little more anxious inside of marathon.

as you're going in, you're like, fuck, it's happening.

Right now, like when you look at like any AI and destiny,
um, you know, they're not really doing, I mean, vandals,
they'll, they'll move a little bits, you know what I mean?
But for the most part it's telegrams, you know what I mean?
You kind of, they have like, there's the one sequence of moves, you know?
And the only way bungee really like, and some enemy difficulty inside of
Destiny is by making them more spongy, you know?
Um, if they added what they have here inside of Marathon, that to me, that's
a Destiny three, like enemy AI, that difficult.
I actually find enemy AI and division to be really good too.
