So that competitive part, yeah, I buy that.
I think it's not to belabor it too much, but I do think a lot of being the best
out of the million has to do with like maybe an initial point of luck and then like maintaining
success as opposed to necessarily being the best, does that make sense? Like people who
are on top usually stay on top even if they're not innovating in the space. And there's
a lot of like OG streamers who I'm not going to put on blast, but like they're kind of
coasting in the sense that they're not innovating in the space. They're not doing anything
new. They just have a built in audience and like that audience is like very comfortable
that streamer and they're like a part of their daily routine. And it's more like a connection
that was formed as opposed to that streamer like really pushing the boundaries. But then
I think when there is a streamer who's like smaller but far and away better than these
people, they usually end up blowing up as long as they don't quit.
And so you end up in a world where a lot of the most talented, most successful people
are making stuff that's very inexpensive to make, but very obviously you might get
like way more views on a video that cost a lot more to make, but that video will never
get made and the people who are capable of making that video, the people who would be
great at making that kind of content, will never find out that they were going to make
that kind of content because there is no market for it.
And so that's like a bit of a problem, but that problem becomes bigger when it comes
to educational content.

Educational content seems like a nightmare to be in.
Right over a fact that you might get like way more views on a video that helps people
understand atomic orbitals or cognitive bias or the French Revolution, but that video if
it's gonna like be inside of the market for educational media, it has to be written by
informed researchers and professionally fact-checked and standards aligned so that it's easy for
teachers to plug it into a lesson plan and trust me that costs a lot more, like
way more than you could ever make from a YouTube channel.
Yeah, I think most, quote unquote,
educational content these days would be more so branded
in like infotainment.
And you can almost just tell by the cadence
of the upload schedule.
Like, I don't think you could consider, for the most part,
there are very few of any educational channels
that are uploading daily.
Like a channel that has the ability to output daily
isn't educational in the same way,
just because they're not able
to like put in the proofreading the work or whatever into like ensuring that it is always
high quality educational content.
So I think infotainment seems to be the, because you know what I realize is people really like
education they think is educational. I think people like watching YouTube
because everyone scrolls right? We're all scrollers so everybody likes watching
something and then feeling like it wasn't a waste of their time. I think if you were
to take those same people and whatever their infotainment of choice is and then
like, you know, quiz them on the things a week later, you know, they'd probably forget
a lot. They'd probably get things wrong, maybe because whether they're watching from isn't
like diligent enough in the research, like there'd be a lot of holes. But the fee feels
probably as valuable to the end user as watching like a, I don't know, Khan Academy video
some shit. In 2013, an Italian programmer named Alberto Randolini was watching a televised
political debate where one guy was just firehosing nonsense and the other guy was visibly drowning,
trying to correct any of it, and Randolini tweeted what is now called Randolini's Law,
which states that refuting BS takes orders of magnitude more energy than producing it.
So BS isn't just cheap to make, it's cheap to make and expensive to refute. The fact-checkers
and the explainers and the people whose whole job is to say, like, wait, that's not quite
They're playing defense in a game where the offense costs like ten times less.
And I'm not just talking out of my butt here.
In 2018, a team at MIT published a study in Science where they looked at every verified true and verified false news story that spread on Twitter from 2006 to 2017.
126,000 stories, 3 million people, 4.5 million tweets.
They found that the false news reached 1,500 people around six times faster than true news.
So it's not just cheaper, it's more appealing.
were 70% more likely to be retweeted than the truth.
And of course it is, because if you want something
that sounds really good and will hook into your brain
and get people to get mad and retweet it,
it's a lot easier to come up with that fact
if you don't have to care whether it's actually a fact.
