Hello everyone, my name is Laura Villarenz and I am the design director for Minecraft
Dungeons 2.
On Tuesday, we're finally releasing the game we've been working so so hard on and we couldn't
be more excited.
The world of dungeons is facing an ecosystem imbalance that threatens to destroy the overworld.
So it's up to you and your friends to figure out what's wrong, restore the balance and
save the world as you adventure through the world of dungeons you'll find secrets
you'll see a new dimension you'll fight lots of mobs and you'll find you look so
so much loot we are super excited for you to play mancraft dungeons too
After we defeated the arch-illager in Minecraft Dungeons, we returned to the camp in Squid
Coast to celebrate.
What we didn't know then was that the camp would be attacked by villagers.
And that is where Minecraft Dungeons 2 picks up.
So you have to help the villagers escape Squid Coast, cross the ocean, and find a new home
for themselves in the town of Braving.
I've never played dungeons, only in the Varned Up.
So when you start to game and you start to explore outside of Bravehaven,
you quickly notice there is something wrong with the world.
It looks cool though.
There is a soul corruption happening in the overworld.
You can see poles of Skulk and souls leaking in some environments.
It turns out there are these three elegers, an evoker, an enchanter,
and an illusionary that have found this mysterious source of power.
And with this power, they have formed the Eligir High Council.
Animations, look, I'm alive! I'm alive!
One of the new things in Minecraft Tendency 2 is how we've structured the world.
In the first game, you had these linear missions that you went on from start to finish.
And in the second game, we've instead built what we call an interconnected world.
Many larger areas that you can go between and explore more than you can in the first game.
So now the world is much more open for you to go and take your own route.
It's just this feeling that it's an endless adventure and you're not as boxed in anymore,
so you have this freedom to explore.
In this game you actually get to know the villagers a little bit better.
So that's one of the first things that I fell in love with with this game was when I got to
interact with them and I got to help them as a player. I wish I thought it was super fun.
Of course they still go, huh? One thing that I think is super exciting is to be able to jump.
It's something that you can do in regular Minecraft and it feels really natural and it
gives us this nice new personality as you play through the game. We can do like little parkour
sections hide secrets and then we've combined that with jump attacks so you get new opportunities
in combat.
That's pretty awesome.
Yeah.
But I have one with the inventory in Microtangents 2 we've taken the armor slot from the first
game and we've split that up into four so we have helmet, chest plate, leggings and boots.
On top of that we've added talismans which is an all new item type so talismans give
passive bonuses that specialise you in a certain playstyle, so more arrows, for example,
with melee damage, more having companions like the wool for the iron column.
A central part to the story of this game is that rifts have started appearing across the overworld,
and as you enter it, you get transported to somewhere you'd never seen before.
The sift.
As you step into the sift for the first time, you'll see this environment is really vibrant.
It's lush. It's rich with souls.
It is beautiful. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it.
I was like, wow, this is beautiful.
When the development of Dungeons 2 started, we were discussing where can we go next.
And we realized it had been over a decade since we added a new dimension to Minecraft.
to Minecraft. New dimensions are of course very important and they truly expand the universe.
We thought it was very important for all the teams to get involved in figuring out what
would this new dimension be. Wait, wait, wait, just a dungeon for normal Minecraft?
The first biome you arrive in in the safe is the meadows. It's a really, really beautiful
biome. And then the further you go into the safe, you encounter more biomes. And one of
of the biomes you will see is more of like a desert biome, we call it the carapace and
it's full of huge bone structures that you will encounter, that is one of my favorite
biomes.
The waves talking about it, it seems like he's hinting at it.
At the time when the Nether and the Enver introduced, we were kind of working on the
game almost like a game jam.
Every week we had a new idea and we would release it almost the same week, so we were
kind of going along with the development of the game as we felt like.
And now when we're making the shift in Minecraft Dungeons 2, we're doing it so much more intentional
and we felt that the most important thing was that it felt complementary to the existing
dimensions so that when you go there, it will feel different, it will look different, but
also creating those exciting combat encounters you would expect from an action adventure
game.
This is just the start of our journey.
We are going to be releasing updates for the game as we go and we have planned a couple
of DLCs which will bring the players to exciting new places and introducing more mobs to Minecraft.

So grab a straw bed, your leather boots and a few extra torches and come travel with me
to the colder parts of Minecraft.
cold biomes have always had their own unique mood. They're beautiful, mysterious and somehow
both adventurous and cozy at the same time. Whether you're crossing a frozen river at
sunrise or watching snow fall outside your cabin, they create moments that feel uniquely
Minecraft. But those chilly adventures have mostly stayed above the ground and we thought
It was time to change that.
Ice caves?
Snow!
We can make a new one as well.
Like a grizzly bear.
So the ice caves are our newest cave biome.
Joining the Driftsun caves, Lush caves and of course South fur caves.
It's our very first like really cold underground biome.
You get into this beautiful picturesque landscape where you will find so many ideas for your new builds.
Super cold caves with lots of eyes, also lots of cow's-eye blocks.
So, yeah, we're here so we can show these ice caves to you today.
The core elements of the visual design for the ice caves
is this interplay between darkness and light.
And one of the first parts for the light part is the ice crystals.
The ice crystal is a new introduction of another crystal block,
Very similar to the Amethyst block, but this one grows naturally on the floor of the ice caves.
The ice crystals are the main source of light in the ice caves, and having light and shadow contributes to creating this sense of depth.
They're super pretty, they emit light, you can place them wherever you want.
This is cool, but it's not blowing high socks off.
So, I think it has a lot of...
It doesn't want to make you start a new world and hop in, you know, and play fun.
I personally really like about the ice cave specifically in comparison to other caves.
I want in low damage.
It forces you to choose your exploration a bit more carefully.
Like usually you can just run into a cave, put your torches anywhere and you're good to go.
In this case you actually have to be mindful of where you're putting your torches
because light is something that can turn into a problem here.
On end updates.
The icicles on the ceiling are falling down when they get exposed to too much light.
So you might endanger yourself by just putting your torches somewhere.
on your dimension which is creating this very cool pull of you want to explore more but it's also
going to be more is how everyone is saying what do you mean by that like a new ice
case like entering the grandiose and fragile world and ice equals falling ice equals grow on
the ceiling of the caves and only on the ceilings and the ground if they want they leave little
particles from their teeth that add a lot of ambience to the cave.
I think the thing I really like is that it gives very
contrasting feelings. Like in one way it's more, okay this is pretty,
like the colors and it's it's grand. And then at the same place it's like
oh because both of these feels very cold, which is
children, it's freezing. But it's also like kind of scary or maybe I missed.
Easily scared. I kept in the thought that you have a lot of things
so so obstructing the view with the view,
jights, if for some reason it's another one,
like they contribute to that.
And then you also talk longer and lingering in the distance
so you never know what's gonna jump on you.
Do in development we have seen a lot of crazy,
beautiful stuff inside the ice caves.
Yeah, of course our procedural generation
is always very interesting.
I think the most striking are the ones with lava
because there's a crazy contrast between love and ice,
which maybe doesn't make super sense,
but it's very, very interesting and fun and pretty.
It's such an important part of Minecraft
that we really wanted to be super exciting to explore.
Like the first time, but it was like 50 years
of Minecraft because you still find things.
You didn't understand.
We're going to introduce shaders, like all of the ice caves
and even the lava is that that interaction
creates this sensation of the environment being alive.
It brings so much life to the ice caves.
When working on the sulfur caves,
one thing that the community pointed out very quickly
was that there's not a lot of oars there.
So we took that to heart
and we made sure that this time
we find a better solution for it.
I don't want any more of the world.
Ice caves are gonna be very interesting for mining.
Oars in these caves, they generate these ice flochips.
Downstone and deep sleep so it's better far and where ors are gonna be combine that with the
Ability to mine ice pretty quickly because it's a very fragile substance
And you have an easier time finding resources than ever
As the prettiest they like the ice caves are actually pretty dangerous
You know you have your usual underground trance like creepers
spiders
Skeleton
Zombies and
The frozen zombie variant is the newest member of the zombie family, crept under ice, they're
now crawling back to the surface to hunt you, and they pack quite a punch.
You see that it's clearly a zombie, like it has that zombie vibe, but then it's covered
in ice and snow, like on the head, on the arms, on the feet.
Yeah, if a player encounters the frozen, the frozen is going to charge at the player,
when they hit the player they're gonna give them the freezing effect which is gonna freeze
up the player over time and make them slower and deal additional damage.
So it becomes very dangerous when there is a truce and another mob because you know you
can't really run away.
What makes this mob specifically challenging is that it doesn't only have one mode of attack.
Some of them will spawn with a new ice ball, which means that you also have a ranged attack.
The deal damage and the damage they deal is based on the speed. They have quite a sharp
acceleration, like snowballs do.
It's like an arrow. You can one shot anyone with an arrow. If you speed it up enough.
Like in real life.
Oh yeah.
You can once with the break.
If you defeat one of those frozen with an ice ball, they might drop it for you.
Same with a new ice ball.
You also can craft freezing potions, which I think are going to be very fun in PvP,
because they allow you to slow down your opponents.
They also deal a bit of damage.
So what we have so far shared about our upcoming drop is a brand new ice cave biome
with the ice crystals, the ice cycles, and the frozen zombie variant with ice balls,
and the freezing effect.
All the things you've heard about today will come out of testing soon.
And we can't wait to see what you build and when you find inside the icecapes.
