I'm ModLight and I'm joined by ModRage.
And today we're stopping by a community run celebration organized by some of the wonderful
mods from our events team within the official OSRS Discord server.

players after that broadcast went out so it's so lovely to see so many of you

get sorted how has your week been so far yeah good honestly I've been busy we
had Dead Man All-Stars which was amazing so I was doing a bit in the kind of
background hidden away in the back, in the closet out the back, they don't let me out
front very often. So yeah that was fun and we've got Blood Moon Rises coming up as well
which I'm very excited for so that will be next week on Tuesday. So prepping for that.
But yeah, I've got a busy one.

GE and then finish where that big red dot is. So that's our route. Oh, and that's the
other route which I'll show you later.
Also, so this one is our free to play route and then we have a paid to play
Wild later. So hopefully we get in on that one

So first of all for everybody new watching I would love to know more or the chat would love to know more about your role
What do you call currently and what have you worked on?
Yeah, so I have been with Jagex for just over a year now, and I started doing the game updates.
So the game updates for my thing, every week just making sure that they were kind of going
well and gathering your feedback and putting that back to the devs and writing the blogs
every week, making sure things were running smoothly on that.
that's what I was first doing for my first year.
And then in January, I was moved over
to the Blood Moon Rises team.
So I started working through Blood Moon Rises,
getting through, getting the rewards of the Blood Moon Rises
and all the content for Blood Moon Rises,
basically to you guys.
So you had all the information
so that you could vote in the polls
and then, yeah, getting them to pass
and hoping that you liked to more tweak in them
as we went together, so that we form something that you guys hopefully will love. I have
playtested some of it. I cannot wait for Tuesday. I am so excited for you guys to get stuck
into it. It's going to be amazing. But yeah, that's the main things I've been doing. I
also have DiveWord and DabWord a little bit with sort of the live stream planning a bit.
So if you've seen any of the bot-busting livestreams and the Easter Christmas Halloween, sort of
like the silly fun ones that we do, I was away in the back again, squirreled away, helping
with those.
I did a bit on the Get It Around blog and that poll and a bit of GE improvement stuff
as well, which went out.
But also there's I don't know if any of you have caught the organized chaos live streams
We've started doing sort of like once a month for a bit of a casual
silly bit of
gameplay just for fun so like mass chambers is the next one, but
We've done. Oh, I don't even know. We've done fight pits. We've done some castle walls
Clan wars. We've done a lot of mini games and stuff which have been really really fun
so yeah I think we've got a command for that but yeah that's mostly what I've
been up to. That's awesome and you brought back bot busting right? Yeah I mean I
don't know I don't know how long it was since we did the last one but yeah I
think last last year I did a couple. Those streams always pop off? Yes they're very
very well-loved streams, the bot busting, so.

Okay. Yeah as for me in terms of what I do at Jaguets
I've been at Jaguets for five years and a lot of people know me for working with team that works on sailing
So that is the entire process of bringing a new skill to the game
Before that, though, I worked on things like Guardians of the Rift, Group Ironman, Quest
Speedrunning, smaller projects like Land of the Goblins, and did a bit of mobile stuff
as well.
And I did a lot of live stream question gathering for our weekly Q&As back in the day as well.
Nowadays, I'm mostly looking at player sentiment reporting, and people might not know what that
is, but that is essentially looking at how we analyze large volumes of player data.
everybody in the chat right now what you're saying and stuff I will be going through it,
analyzing it, trying to understand how players feel about the game and then putting that forward
to the relevant teams to improve like how we do our processes and things like that. My current
project is Worms Craig and that is designed by a player known and yeah that's kind of what I'm
I'm working on right now. Analyze this 676767. Well, that is some, that is some great data
to take back to the team. Thank you, my brain, like my mental health has significantly deteriorated
from trying to analyze some of the comments within the
community.

you've got to analyse the most unhinged meme. But what does it mean Mod Light? What does
it mean? What are they trying to say?
Like that's the thing and sometimes the memes are so good you just have to put them on the
page that you're doing a team meeting to present player feedback and you're like, look at this
meme.

It got to Kingdom and I did my Kingdom and then I logged in to do my Kingdom every day
for a long time and it's got a lot of herbs. It's got a lot of herbs, but that's about it.
Yeah, I need to start, I need to pick it back up and start doing some content on it.
And then I also have a game which got abandoned at the at the crab. So that's sitting at the crab
and my GIM partner is not very happy with me
because they just started the CG grind
and got some good drops from that
and then I was kind of like, mmm, I'm crabbing
crab life for me
but no, I'm mostly, mostly in the main
and I have just started doing Doom for the first time
I had a little practice
actually Mudlight saw some of my Doom gameplay in the new Mudlight
and I got...
It was very impressive
It was not, it was horrific, I was running around the room screaming, going, why am I dying?
But I got to wave 7 and then I got to wave 8 and the double boulders came out on Doom
and I ran away.
They were scary and died.
So I need to learn how to handle the double boulders on Doom.
But yeah, other than that, I will at some point like to do Blower and Radiant but they're
a bit out of my range at the moment.
not good enough so I need to practice a bit more, do a bit more grinding. And yes, Wave
8 is a different beast, Jaws. Why is Wave 8 so much harder than Wave 7? It's very, very
difficult and I am not good at game. So, yeah. But, fast me! What about you?
Well, I'm going to use a mainlet from now on. My mainlet, I'm on a, I hate this at the
moment with my mane. I have got a fire cape for what it's worth. So I've done that. And
I was focusing on questing, but then I made the mistake of leaving all the difficult quests
until lost. So now I just have a bunch of like really, really difficult quests to do, which
yeah, takes a lot of brain power for me. So I asked a friend what I should do. They recommended
I saw an iron account. Initially, I tried following a really sweaty, efficient iron
guide. I thought, yeah, this is going to be my time to shine. And it was way too complex
for me. I don't know how you guys do that. Shout out to anyone who plays efficiently.
That's not the road for me. But yeah. Honestly, the wiki is strong. Yeah. Just go to the wiki,
Google everything. That's what I do.

I don't remember it was like so many years ago. I remember I got it from the trauma.
It was not too bad, like once I got the hang of it, but I was getting triggered like for a bit and then when I got it, it was like a euphoric feeling.
I can't forget that. It was the first really like difficult piece of content I did in the game and I was like wow.
and then I started fussing and then I fell off.
So yeah, what was your favorite piece of content?
My favorite piece of content is probably, it's a tough one because I love T.O.B.
and I think T.O.B. is probably the best raid that we have,
but it is so close between T.O.B. and Chambers that I think I'm going to have to give it to Chambers
because Chimbers is how I kind of like started getting into PBM I would say
and started like I won't say play in the game but you can play the game however
you want that's the beauty of old-school right you can play however you want but
I would say Chimbers is how I started to make friends start to learn how to raid
start to learn how to yeah get sort of level up a bit more I mean I really I
I learnt how to click and understand ticks and stuff through Inferno, but Chambers is
like a nice way to start getting into that journey.
I think it's just, yeah, it's really inclusive as well.
You can, you can with relatively low gear and stats kind of jump into a raid and get
carried by some friends and it doesn't really match up to you much if you die in the bits
before.
I mean, it kind of does it all, I guess, but you know, like, as long as you've got good
people, you can land Chambers.
you can learn the basics. So I would say probably Chambers is my favourite content. And it's
also where I made most of my money. I got very, very spooned at Chambers. I won't talk
about my collection log, but yeah, Chambers is probably my favourite.
I think I was supposed to work on my stats so that I could get carried by you in Chambers,
and I forgot to do that, so.
Yeah, absolutely, you need to do that.
I need to, we should do that as a stream.
Take mod light to chambers and just watch the chaos unfold.

And what was the one piece of content
that you never want to touch again?

I would say it's probably not old school actually.
It's probably pre-old school,
back when old school was RuneScape.
And I did a very, for some reason, in my school holidays, in my youth, ah, when I was young,
I decided that I was going to get 99 smithing, and this was back in the day before we had
blast furnace, okay?
I had to suffer through gold smithing gauntlets, using gold bars, turning the gold bars into
bracelets because I was also poor at the time, I didn't have any money, so I had to do the
bracelets with gold smoothing gauntlets to 99 smoothing and I think it was like I don't
know I can't remember more than 30k an hour exp or something oh I don't know why I did
it to myself but I did it to myself in my half time as well I didn't I didn't have a
lot of friends so I was in my basement as a teenager and that was probably I wouldn't
I would not do that to myself again, so yeah, probably that, oh nice.
For me, favorite content is anything AFK, I'll just be so real with you guys, I feel like
the point in itself is like how much AFK content should we be releasing because there's a lot
nowadays, but yeah for me I just love AFK content, I like to like chill with game on another monitor
and then just be getting on with stuff.
But when I did do my Fire Cape, that
was actually my first experience of real PVM content,
and I did find it really, really fun.
I'm more of a competitive person in nature,
and especially after seeing Deadman,
I really had this itch to try PVP,
but I know I'm going to be terrible.
But we are releasing a PVP tutorial,
so I'm genuinely considering trying it after that.

the finale last week. How did you find it?
Oh, I was so good. I was so excited. I was like a little kid in the back, just like jumping

I kind of wanted to... I was team purple at the start because I just think team vibes,
team purple were just so entertaining, so funny. Spark Mac in the... Ah! The claw. Do

to do a rollback and I was almost crying because it was the first ever pet that I had that I was

How long have you been at Jagex now? Is it five years?
Five years, guys. Five years. Yes.
It's a long time. And I know obviously like sailing is three years since, like, because you started, you started sailing was like your baby, right?
When you started three years ago, I think you took it from consultation to like new scale. That's kind of interesting.
So I guess just like a little bit of how how you found that or like how is it to see it now it's out and everything
Yeah, I know this is awesome. Um, and I'm excited because like it's literally out like we're sailing right now
For this event. So yeah, it's it is surreal
and it's great and
The biggest thing about sailing is just how long we spent on
on the journey to get to where we are today, right?
Like we literally asked players all the way back,
you know, like 2023, do you want a new skill?
And this was just a simple question
before we even considered designs,
before we considered like development, things like that.
Do you want a new skill?
And then from there, it was a series
of consultations, surveys, looking at player feedback,
discussing it as a team, trying to ensure that we implemented
that through every step. And I think that there were definitely
moments along the way that like, we learned something right,
like, it was the first kind of process of its kind, I think. I
don't think any other studio has done something like that as
far as I'm aware. So it was such a unique kind of experience.
And yeah, I just remember like the skill pitches stage was
really, really cool. Seeing the response to everything was
awesome. And like learning about how the community gives
feedback, I think it's really, really important. So
understanding, like for example, getting that quality of
feedback that you need to actually address concerns and
stuff, how you can do that better. You know, there are lots
of blogs, and I think that you can't really get proper
understanding of how players feel just from a blog, like it's when players get their hands on it,
it's really, really, really important to understand the feedback at that stage because,
you know, players play the game best. That's why they're our players. They know what's best when
it's actually in their hands. So, yeah, it was really, really interesting. I'm also really excited
to see how it shapes because, like, skills are never, like, fully finished, right? Like, we
develop them over time. And I think it's going to be really, really interesting in the future
to see how that shapes and develops. And yeah, I just I love seeing like players with their boats
like decked out and stuff in game. I think it's really, really cool. The amount of stuff that
you can do with with sailing like in the future and stuff is really, really cool. So yeah,

Before that stage, you're just thinking of every possible outcome, and it's really interesting
to see where the cards fell.
I think that's really, really cool.

But yeah, for me, I was really neutral about it.
And I feel like all of them had their own unique pros and cons.
Like, it's just really, really interesting to the community's
response as well.
And even in the chat, seeing your thoughts
is really, really interesting.
Everybody has their own opinions, and that's really cool.
So trying to navigate that and really
understand the meaning behind the feedback and things
that is really really cool. Did you have a favourite? Did you want a favourite?
Originally I was team taming because I just wanted to have a big pet. I just wanted a
big pet but I think sailing was probably the right choice long term. I think it was a good
move because it does open up the existing map with all the seas and exploration and everything.
But I just wanted a big pet that I could raise. I wanted a big friendly pet. That's all I wanted
but no it was a good choice um yeah cool um and they totally didn't pay
reach to say that by the way just saying guys that was off the cuff that one i was
like i'm gonna get make it i'm gonna make it choose you have to choose
this is gunter okay you have to like sailing
um was there anything that kind of i guess within all that feedback and all the
you talked a bit about shaping sailing as it goes, it's shaped by the players and what they like,
what they don't like. Was there anything along that journey so far that's really surprised you
with how they've gone about shaping that? Yeah, absolutely. I think the biggest moment in the whole,
like at least from my perspective, I can't speak for a dev, I'm just a community manager, but the
The most fundamental moment for me
was how we actually landed on how boats actually move.
And we wrote a whole blog about this, by the way.
Like if you go back like years,
it's like to do with the navigation systems,
like the underlying tech.
And this was like five head, like I,
my brain could not comprehend a lot of it,
but essentially there's so much technical work
that goes into how boats actually move.
And I wish that we had a dev on to like really like go into it.
But there's a whole place called Boat World,
where the boats, they look like they're in game right now,
but they're actually in this other place
within the game called Boat World.
And to make that happen and to make it look seamless
and everything work with collision and stuff like that
is a whole process.
It's really, really interesting.
Modnin did so much work with that.
But there was a whole discussion with players
behind the scenes around,
do we go with tile movement, which is like what you have in game?
And that was not necessarily working for the sea
because of various reasons.
So there was lots of feedback that we had at that stage that
shaped the rest of the skill, right?
Because movement is so critical for the rest of the skill.
And it wasn't necessarily something
we realized until in development.
It's like, oh, wow, this is a big deal.
So, yeah, I think that shaped it a lot,
and there was a lot of debate around part thing,
and it was really interesting and challenging to navigate,
especially because we were still
like really early on in development,
like it's really hard to like visualize
like what we see right now,
that's super hard to know how it's gonna look
when you're still in development.
But yeah, just kind of like getting that buy-in
and that confidence behind it,
and using the team's judgment as well
was really, really important.
But we had to take that feedback into account,
and we made sure to do that,
to increase our confidence, essentially.

like, what's been your favourite event that you've ever worked on? So, well, so we did
them, organised chaos for anyone who doesn't know, is once a month we run an event, in
game, could be like Corp, Mass Corp, could be Mass Chambers, it could be Fight Pits which
which is an old minigame, it could be Castle Wars, Clam Wars, and we just get like thousands
of players in game in one place and we do a broadcast and we just see what happens kind
of thing when we do it on a live stream.
Now we used to do it in Discord back in the day, we used to just sit in Discord with everyone
and just chill and do some content and see what happens.
Now we decided to up the risk even more and do it on Twitch, so now we're doing them on
Twitch.
And yeah, they've been great, honestly.
My favourite one is probably some of the Discord ones we did.
I've only done three on Twitch so far.
We did Nex, we had Muts on for Mass Nex, that was really fun.
We had Fightpits, we had Pillsperm come along and did some Fightpits on the Leagues world,
which was really interesting.
Just seeing PvP on Leagues was really cool.
And the next one we're doing, I think the next one we're doing in July, exclamation
mark OC in the Twitch chat if you want to link to the blog.
But yeah, the one in July is going to be mass chambers.
So yeah, mass chambers is going to be insane.
I don't know if anyone's ever done a, so you can only do 100 people in the chambers, it's
the max that you can do.
So we're going to have multiple FCs, we're going to have like, we're going to try and
get like 10 volunteers.
We have like mod midnight or be there mod jelly or be there mod civil be there and we'll try and run sort of multiple
Fcs with a hundred people in every single chambers

I spoke to the leader of We Do Raids, so the We Do Raids clan is going to help us out.
They're going to bring some folks in and they're going to host some FCs because we just don't
know how many people we're going to get.
We don't know how many people are going to turn up.
So we're going to try and have as many FCs running as we can.

Someone asked me my favorite community event.
I've only attended like this.
There was one community event that sticks out.
It was a suicide awareness event that I attended.
It was really, really, really wholesome.
The funny thing about that one though is that I was a very new J-mod at the time and, you know, with the Rotten Potato, you have loads of options.
I don't know if you can show it Rach on stream, but there's like, there's one option on the Potato that's like, kill all players around me.
And I was so scared. I was so scared that on the suicide awareness march that I would accidentally press that button and

Not it was that's the one thing that sticks up, but it was a really meaningful event. I would be a meeting
That's why I like don't want to attend events on my jay. What I come to just I had this like unhinged
