you're banned from the Palestine and Israel for five years. During my interrogation, I told him
that I was headed to party in Tel Aviv because of the reclusive atmosphere of anti-Semitism in
the US dating market. He blocked the story and let me in. But anyways, eventually we were all
released without charge and back on the highway toward Hebron. A path divided by separate highways,
constant military checkpoints and infinite repetitions of those big red sides,
which the Israeli army puts up to scare visitors away from Palestinian enclaves.
This road leads to area A under the Palestinian Authority.
The entrance for Israeli citizens is forbidden, dangerous to your lives and is against the Israeli law.
As mentioned, our driver, Musa, hails from the Aida refugee camp back in Bethlehem.

He wanted to show us Hebron, to show us a more intimate example of urbanized apartheid in the West Bank.
We are in Hebron now, talking about the colonizer, how they saw the people houses, how the Palestinian family dealing with all of that.
The whole physical infrastructure is constructed in such a way that Palestinians are made invisible,
that the way the roads are constructed, the ways in which life takes place inside the cities,
in a factual and practical way, has been sequestered and made invisible.
In Hebron, you'll see Israeli settlements physically built over top exist in Palestinian communities.
Something you can't really see anywhere else.
After we arrived, Moussa introduced us to one of his friends, a local from Hebron, to get a more in-depth view of the city.

posted to social media to encourage further harassment.

is really weird because I've never done any sort of activism.

was primarily caused by the collapse of two state peace talks at the Camp David Summit
in 2000.
Yet, in spite of the PA's good faith, Israel has continued to increase pressure on the
PA.
not due to financial mismanagement,
but rather to the withholding and theft of our funds
by Israel.
Israeli banks control 64% of the PA's monthly tax revenue,
roughly $188 million per month,
and frequently withhold or deduct these funds
to pressure the PA to meet their demands.
This is the 10th month in a row
that we've not received a single penny
of our money held by Israel.
This system of illegal revenue control
prevents the PA from being able to provide
basic social services like benefits for veterans.
They've also devastated the West Bank's
medical infrastructure by revoking the medical degrees
all Palestinian doctors and medical professionals who earn their degrees from non-Israel universities,
while simultaneously calling for the assassination of any PA officials who so much has hit at the
idea of a two-state solution after October 7th.
There's a de facto sense in which life becomes intolerable, I mean they're doing this in
Gaza right, they say like incentivized emigration, say like you just leave, so I think there's
a sense in which they...

are so huge, the border would be, you know,
so they talk about, oh, population transfers,
but you've got two non-contiguous terrains,
like Gaza and then the West Bank,
and then also a very understandable sense of grievance.
And a feeling on the Palestinian side is like,
also there's right of return, like,
what about the houses we left in 48?

A lot of families are still keeping the key and even though they know other houses destroyed it in 1948
but it still gives them a hope that one day they will back again to their home.

But H2 Israelis and Hebron aren't comfortable

Israel and here you can see all those flags all over the place and this whole contrast shows how there is this tired
Way of Israelizing Jerusalem while in fact it does not really match the reality on the ground in a way
Hebron can be seen as a more intense version of Jerusalem where while some Zionist settlements do exist
It's more of a destination for rabid bands of settler youth who flocked to Temple Mount for occasions like Jerusalem day with heavy security
But this is not the case in Hebron because the areas where all the settlements is located in the middle of the city is not accessible for Palestinians.
So you have urbanized apartheid here?

Comparatively, it's by Jerusalem where you have sort of suburbs that are walled off maybe a mile from the highway.

You notice directly as soon as you arrive to the area.

Here in Hebron in particular, you have apartheid segregation built into the urban core, which is not something you see elsewhere in the West Bank.

The reason is that the settlement has physically been built
over top of a Palestinian street that used to be the biggest commercial hub of the city until 2000.
So as you can see, there's a four-story apartment building right above me. They have a separate
entrance to get inside of the street in front of it. They have Israeli flags in the windows,
and it's totally inaccessible to any Palestinians or foreigners who don't live there. So there's a
total separate infrastructure that's been built illegally. But also, as you can see, there's a
I mean it. It's literally honey talk.

This is literally a rust basic.

They have been thrown by the settlers onto pedestrians

Does that exist in the West Bank?
In my opinion, absolutely.
The difference, though, you know, the apartheid in South Africa was explicitly, literally,
about skin color and texture of hair. So it was all about racial identity. In the West Bank,
what you have is a sense of there's two communities with different ethnic identities.
And by the way, some of the Palestinians are Christian, but obviously most of them are Muslim,
and they are subject to a different legal regime. And in certain respects, I don't argue it's worse
than apartheid. Like, it's more militarized, it's less functional. Like, life, I think,
is more intolerable from what I observe and understand in the West Bank than it would have been
in South Africa. So we've mentioned two dates so far, the year 2000 when the second Intifada
started, discussed last episode, and October 7th 2023, the date of the Hamas attack on Israel,
which resulted in the Gaza Genocide and an increased pressure campaign on the West Bank.
We will destroy Hamas and we will continue to fight terrorism in the future.
We continue to the end, nothing will stop us.
What I'm trying to understand is that a no solution means a de facto W upper Israel because
the way that it's going on, the way that it's spreading, these compounds are expanding in
expansion from the inside, expands everywhere, and it's a de facto win.
So any stalling equals win.
So stalling forever is winnable.
So then, solution must happen.
We will go to the end to victory, no less than that.
I'm cautious about framing the situation there as some kind of ancient conflict or some unfixable stalemate between two frenzied religious groups.
But to be fair, religious tension and violent clashes in Hebron go way back before the formation of Israel in 1948.
Part of this is because the city carries as much religious significance for Muslims as it does for Jews.
And the most important part for them was this, the old city of Hebron.
Why? Because the tomb of Patriarchs is located here.
where Muslims, Christians and Jews believe that the Prophet Abraham and his wife Sarah, Isaac and his wife Rebecca Jacob and his wife Leah,
all of them are buried in a cave and on top of that cave, a structure was erected later on, which is became a mosque and later on was divided to a mosque and the synagogue, a Jewish synagogue.
Abraham is the shared prophet of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
Yes, for Jewish religion in general, this building considered the second important religious sites in the Jewish religion
And they also consider the Prophet Abraham the father of the Jewish religion.
Even though the Jewish religion came many, many years later after the Prophet Abraham.
To break it down, the cave of the patriarch is one of the most contentious sites in the world.
Half the facility is a mosque for followers of Allah,
and the other half is a synagogue for followers of Hashem,
all of whom rejoicing the shared worship of Prophet Abraham,
whose wife and kids apparently rest in the caves below.

So that's why this place is considered the only place in the world that presents the three-man Abrahamic religion.

He was sort of like, you do your stick, you do your thing,
you organize your own charities,
you organize your own educational system.

Now, minorities had to pay a jizya tax
because they weren't conscripted,
they weren't part of the army,
and they were being protected

But that tax was abolished in 1856.
Things were pretty much all good
between religions in Palestine under the Ottoman Empire.
But after they fell and the British took over around 1920,

So you had this hardening of communal boundaries.
Gradually, the Arab Muslim majority
began to view the Jewish population
as an asset of the British occupation,
especially after 100,000 European Zionists
immigrated to Palestine in just a six-year period
between 1922 and 1928.
By the end of that decade,
tensions reached a boiling point.

where there is an escalation started in Jerusalem

It started in Hebron after the British army
used some Palestinians who have interest
with the British government and raised the rumors in the city
that a massacre was committed.
So what would have been the play then?
The play would have been to say no,
to a heart in the border and say no immigration, no W.
I did against the Palestinian Muslims
in the old city in Jerusalem.
And people get banished.
They decided to leave the city trying to reach Jerusalem,
but all the entrances of the city were
closed by the British army.
So what happens, people went back to the market,
and they found that a massacre or a clash
has started against the Palestinian Jewish community
living in Hepburn.
There was a massacre of Jews that 70 Jews were killed.
The 1929 massacre led to the destruction of Hebron's Jewish community, and the exodus
of every last Jewish person living in the city.
Many of whom were among the Palestinian Jews who comprised 10% of the population before
Zionist immigration began.
Most of the people who lived in Hebron before the massacre of 1929 were indigenous Jews.
The Zionist population was never a significant part of the Hebron population.

And in 1968, they actually, a group of Jews
went into one of the larger hotels in Hebron
as, you know, pretending to be Swiss tourists,

And the Israeli army wanted them to leave,
and they finally negotiated a settlement for them leaving,
and they ended up founding a settlement
called Kirgat Arba, which is, you know,
in existence to this very day.
So the Israeli army was so annoyed with this group of American Jews pretending to be Swiss
people who wouldn't leave the Palestinian hotel room that they actually built them a
place to live.
And since then, the population of settlers has gone from a couple dozen hotel guests
to over a thousand souls living in H1.
One of the key factors in apartheid is closing down the commercial centers that belong to
the oppressed group who once called Mary a home.

But what it been possible to have some sort of needed program for some form of assimilation,
like if you integrate here, here are the rules or the whatever.
Restrict one of the main Palestinian commercial centers that used to exist up until the year

Even if these cat infested barriers weren't built
and there was freedom of movement, though,
Palestinians would still be subject to arrest
if they tried to cross into H1 without military authorization.
So this massive purple area that you have here on the map,
it's coated purple because it says travel forbidden.
So you have almost half of the urban core
restricted to Palestinians.
But this division appeared in 2000.
That's why, after 1984, the city was still accessible, that's part of the city without any problem.
Then in 1987, the first Palestinian civil uprising started, known as the First Intifada.
So, we've talked about the Second Intifada a few times, but the first one began for almost identical reasons.
Palestinian frustration with the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
But the key difference between the First and Second Intifada is that the first one led to a conversation,
a negotiation between the Palestinian Authority and the Israelis.
And unfortunately it resulted in signing an agreement known as Oslo Accord or Oslo Agreement.
The Oslo Agreement discussed last episode extensively is the reason for the Area A, B and C divisions in the West Bank.
And while the garden is a failure on both sides of the coin.
For us or for me as a Palestinian I found that agreement was the worst agreement that was signed in the European Union.
Why in particular?
Because it gives them more time to maneuver and to implement facts on the ground, which
is today, I don't want to say impossible to change, but it's really hard to change.
So the initial agreement was signed on September 13th, 1993.
And less than six months later, the Muslim community of Hebron would experience a horrific
act of terrorism that reshaped the city forever.
Let's talk about the main incident that took place in Hebron back in 1994, which changes
everything so 1994 an American Jewish person from New York agreement and
this is the case for the extremist Jewish settlers they didn't like it because
it will give an idea about creating a Palestinian state so that settler Baruch
Goldstein he woke up in 1994 5 a.m. in the morning and he put his full
military gear his full military uniform the way to Ali Brahimi mosque he went

He opened fire and he killed 29 Palestinians

So the Hebron Fund, located smack dab in the middle of Brooklyn, is responsible for the
renovations to the synagogue in Hebron, and are the primary chaperones of the transnational
migration pattern that keeps the settlements booming. Here's some coverage captured by

condos and land shares are being advertised and sold inside.
What's good, we are here on 67th and 3rd street in front of the Park East synagogue in New
York City for the great Israeli real estate event of 2026.

consumer friendly service. PSA, which stands for Professional Sports Authenticator, offered
a universal standard to determine how much a card was worth. Think back to elementary
school at the lunch table. Your friend has a bag of chips, and you're willing to give
up your ding-dong in exchange for it. The chips aren't objectively more valuable than
the ding-dong, but if both of you are satisfied with the trade, then it really doesn't matter.

the industry standard guide of what matters when buying or selling cards. In a close inspection,
a trained PSA grader validates a card's authenticity,
ensuring that it is officially licensed merchandise
and not a knockoff.
They assess any potential damage,
such as rips, tears, scuffs, folds,
and finally they give a grade
to the card's overall condition on a one to 10 scale.
And at the end, they carefully encapsulate the card
in a protective case to preserve its condition
with a label displaying its name and official check.

Before PSA was rotting the industry from its core,
it was actually meant to preserve the integrity of it.
But as their power and influence grew,
they started moving away from being a humble service
hobbyists and developing into a corporation fully fixated on profits. PSA expanded their company
beyond just grading cards. They integrated with eBay to create the PSA Vault, which helps store,
list, sell, and ship trading cards for their customers. So if you wanted to sell your recently
graded card, you could have them take care of the entire selling process from start to finish
with a little effort. PSA even offered a buyback service where they would purchase the card directly
after grading. And some interpret this as kind of a...

If you're handing a company your card, they're deciding how much it's worth,
and then they're offering to buy it from you themselves. If they plan on reselling the card
for a profit, they have every incentive to convince you it's worth a little less than it

To audit this process, here's what you would do then.
You send a card for sale, you find your listing, you buy your own card,
remove the fucking PSA, send it back in,
not for sale, to get back and check what PSA you get.

Almost every time, it's worth way less than what you thought it was.
From there, PSA's parent company, which is confusingly called Collector's,
also acquired rival grading services, Beckett and SGC,
getting them closer to becoming a monopoly. Today, PSA and its sister companies take up 80% of the
total market, with PSA accounting for a whopping 72%. And that dominance comes with an immense
responsibility. The trading card market is now a multi-billion dollar industry, and basically
every collector on the planet relies on PSA's labels to determine that each card they received
was authentic and in perfect condition. And when PSA makes mistakes, they aren't just minor disputes,
They have the potential to be catastrophic errors that can bankrupt a collector.
But before we get into that, we all live busy lives.

In 2017, a 1952 Stan Musial baseball card sold for $2,800.
It had slight imperfections, including a black dot on the border,
as well as a few small scuffs on his jersey.
All things considered, the card was still in great condition and received a PSA Grade 9.
Seven months later, another copy of the card was sold, this time a PSA Grade 10, for a price of $28,100.
The problem is, these were the same exact card.
Natural markings on the back of both were identical, meaning that someone had covered up its imperfections
and resubmitted it to PSA, got a higher grade, and made tens of thousands of dollars.
PSA is supposed to inspect every card closely before giving it a grade.
It checks for scratches, scuffs, and imperfections, but it also ensures that the card is both
authentic and unaltered.
Like when you and I look at a PSA 8, 9, or 10, we just kind of say, yeah, I mean, it
looks perfect.
But PSA's job is to notice the tiny things that we never would.
Maybe someone painted a tiny white chip on the edge, or they trimmed a fraction of a
millimeter off the border, or they managed to fix a crease that used to be there.
even still, you might wonder what the big deal is. I mean, if a card can be restored
to pristine condition, then why should it matter if it was originally or not?
You have micro needling, a microscopic needle that would have maybe some white paint around
it on the black spot and go at the nano level, remove the black parts so that when they look
at it, they can't see the holes, but it removes the imperfection.
Well, it's because the history of a card is a major factor in its value. To see a card

But they messed up too many times to count.
A Billy Maloney card from the early 1900s was purchased for $81 before being altered,
regraded, and sold for a $900 profit.
A 1952 Mickey Mantle card was altered and resold for $14,800.

nearly $2,000 profit.
By 2019, hundreds of examples of altered cards that PSA had improperly graded had piled up,
culminating in a class action lawsuit.
The lawsuit went further than accusing PSA of making a few mistakes.
argued that trained graders should have been able to recognize the alteration and alleged
that PSA knowingly allowed them to enter the market regardless. The situation became too
large for PSA to ignore and they announced an internal investigation into the matter. Now to be
fair, PSA- They should place the card into a little box that holds the card not too firmly
and it wiggles it around and flashes it with light and it can check everything.
when it uses AI because they rate millions of cards every year and these alterations were done
specifically by the seller to deceive trained authenticators into getting a higher grade.
It is possible that these specific instances were genuine mistakes and someone just figured out
how to beat the authenticators. But whether PSA approved the cards knowingly or made a genuine
mistake, the result for buyers was the same. Altered cards entered the market with legitimate
grades that people thought were original and could be sold for far more money than they were worth,
which made people start to wonder if that little number in the corner could really be trusted.
Sometimes customers are disappointed with the grade their card gets. Maybe they thought it was a
perfect 10, but PSA found a small imperfection that bumped it down to a 9. The customer now has
two choices. They can accept the result and sell the card, or they can resubmit it to PSA and hope
for a better result. Pokemon card collector and YouTuber Pokemon Steven submitted approximately
10,000 cards to be graded by PSA over the past couple of years. A little under 200 of his cards
received unsatisfactory gradings. He believed that these cards were actually 10s, so he decided to
resubmit them on the off chance that someone had made a mistake, and the results were shocking.
experiment. 189 cards in total, so 108 cards did not make the cut. 81 of the
resubmitted cards were bumped up from a PSA9 to a PSA10. That's 42%, but he had
not changed the card at all. The corners, the art, the surface were all exactly the
same as when he submitted them the first time.
That's insane. 40% for most big card. This is like it's like a 10x bow, like 15x
The only thing that changed was the grade itself, and as discussed prior, the difference between these two grades can mean the difference of hundreds, thousands, and in extreme cases, millions of dollars.
What one inspector views as a nine, the other may view as a ten, and it's starting to seem like the only difference is how lucky you are when your card is being reviewed.
PSA's grading system is supposed to be an objective measurement of the card's condition, but as more controversies pile up, the grading seems subjective.

The problem is that a human grader still has to decide what counts as perfect.
Maybe there's a small mark in the artwork that one grader notices while the other one
doesn't.
What one grader sees as a printing imperfection, another may view as an unnatural defect that
bumps its grade down.
So now, submitting to PSA is like gambling, especially when you consider the fees associated
with this process.
Submitting to PSA for grading costs $25 per card plus shipping.
Um, what?
You offer slight discounts for bulk submissions, but think about it, if you get a low grade,
your card could be worth less than 25 bucks, meaning it costs more to authenticate and
grade than it's actually worth.
However, if your card is worth more, PSA will charge you insane amounts of money to do the
exact same grading as a worthless card, like Niko, who submitted his rare Mickey Mouse card
that was worth $20,000 to PSA, only for them to charge him $1,000 for his perfect 10 grade
or Scruffy, who has charged $150 for a 10 grade 2021 Pokemon Sword and Shield,
It will evolve in Skies and $600 for a 9 grade 2002 Charizard.

to pay them $1,000 to authenticate it.

The most notable example of this is when a collector named Preston submitted 30 separate Pikachu Zekrom GX cards to PSA for grading.
He anticipated that most of them would be perfect tens, but he was shocked to discover that none of them received a perfect grade.

Around this time, a PSA-9 of this exact card was going for around $41, while a PSA-10 was nearly $200,
meaning that PSA bought them from him as a 9 and sold them as a 10.

And Preston missed out on around $1,500 for all 11 cards.
And this highlights the conflict of interest I mentioned before.
The only people who can change a grade are PSA themselves,
so if they are authenticating and buying and selling cards,
They could theoretically change the grade of a game card to maximize their personal profits on the sale.
As you can see, this is a legendary collection of PSA 10 manky that's listed on eBay by PSA themselves.

However, PSA offered a different explanation. Supposedly, someone at PSA had seen Preston's
original post on Twitter. They personally believed that the initial grading was too harsh and
conducted a secondary manual review, resulting in updated gradings after Preston had already
accepted their offer, which is shady. They conveniently realized that they messed up only
after they already bought the cards from him and resold them for a profit. Luckily for Preston,
his story got a lot of traction online, and he claims that they privately rectified the situation
with him. Hope means that they gave him the money he deserves for the benefits he had
while he undersold to them, but that still doesn't feel like a satisfying conclusion,
and still didn't explain why the cards were undergraded in the first place.
A fellow collector claimed that cards tend to be undergraded by PSA
when they receive bulk quantities of the same card.
I guess the logic is that when you look at the same card over and over again,
you maybe start to see imperfections that aren't there.
So are these the same?
Maybe the same person is just going over all of them and is like,
surely they can't all be 10s, so here's an I.
But obviously that would be corrupt and unethical business practices.
But most importantly, PSA did not make the situation right with Preston until after he
went viral on social media and gave them bad publicity.
Was Preston the only person this has ever happened to, or was he just lucky enough to
get attention online and put pressure on PSA to pay him what they owed?
But one of the most insane controversies that gained traction online was when PSA admitted
they damaged someone's extremely rare card, and many saw this as the final nail in the
coffin for their reputation.
A man named Brian revealed that his PSA 10 Pokémon card was severely damaged while getting it re-holdered by PSA, bumping it all the way down to a grade 6.

The card was a sky-splitting deoxys, an extremely rare card released in limited quantities in 2004 and-
Chat, why is the top not round? It's weird, no? Oh, it's because it's um, that's the plastic, that's the um-
never printed in English.
There were very few copies like this,
and in his condition,
making Brian's card almost impossible to replace.

Basically what this means is he already submitted it before
and it got a 10, but he was paying them
to crack open the old plastic case
and seal the exact same card into a brand new holder.
Collectors do this all the time
the slab gets scratched, cracked, or it just looks old. A fresh holder can make an expensive
card easier to sell because buyers know the case is brand new and the card had recently
been inspected. The problem is, at the moment PSA cracks the case open, they're handling
one of the rarest cards in the world, and if anything goes wrong, the damage is permanent.
PSA acknowledged that they had damaged the card and offered to reimburse Brian the full
market value, which they determined to be $20,000. He wasn't happy with this considering
that the same card had sold for up to $45,000 around the same time, with others saying it
was worth even more. Multiple people have told me that the Deoxys is $60,000 plus, and
I personally have an offer over that. PSA fixed this issue. PSA got the $20,000 figure
by averaging all of the recent sales of that same card, and this just seemed like a slap
in the face because at best they're offering half and at worst a third of what it's actually worth.
But the problem is they caused the house of the party and gave themselves the authority to decide
how much that loss was worth. And rather than accepting their deal, Brian took to the internet.
Once again, the community was furious and this specific situation ramped up to a whole new level
once Moist Critical made a video about it. This is where it gets extremely spicy. That card sold
only a couple of weeks ago, by PSA, and this is where it gets a little conspiratorial, but I
think there's a lot of merit to it. There are people that are speculating that they didn't
actually damage his card when re-holding it. The encapsulation process, it's a scion, it's not real.
What they're thinking might have happened is PSA, when re-holding that PSA 10 deoxys that was
submitted. They took it and then sold it themselves and then instead gave him a
sick. They swapped it saying that it was damaged and now it's you know it's down
to a six. I guess PSA now stands for pro scam artists. Critical brought
awareness to this dispute far outside the card collecting community putting PSA
under more pressure than ever before. Brian announced they had come to an
agreement that he was satisfied with indicating that he was compensated for
the proper market value of his card.
By this point, the pattern becomes a bit too familiar.
PSA rejected a complaint, the collector went public on the internet, and then the company
changed their mind after the story went viral.
There are dozens of other examples of PSA destroying their customers' cards, and you
have to wonder if these individuals were ever given proper compensation.
Probably not because a massive YouTuber didn't make a video.
So what is it?

Boycotting won't work
because all collectors would have to do it together.
The market has decided that PSA is the gold standard,
and it's almost impossible to go against
what the market wants.
As long as buyers seek out PSA graded cards,
sellers will continue to sell them.
Which means that they will just have to deal with whatever nonsense comes with working with PSA.
This is why monopolies are supposed to be illegal.
But above all else, PSA is just another example of how any hobby or niche eventually gets hijacked and exploited by corporations.
The same thing happened with sneakers.
Any regular person who wants to occasionally, maybe once a year, or every other year, buy a pair of sneakers has to deal with insane-

A lot of them are dog checks to wear them because I know who opened them.
The experience of that ownership is worth way more than getting some second hand bullshit.

The hobby being corrupted is a reminder that nothing you love is safe or sacred anymore.
And PSA isn't the only business that's built an empire by telling people what their collectibles
are worth.
